The Sand Ceremony
The variations of a sand ceremony are virtually endless and can incorporate many different compositions, including family and friends. The sand ceremony may be incorporated at any time, but is generally conducted after the exchanging of vows and rings. The symbolism created by this visually pleasing gesture is the joining of two unique people as one. The celebrant firstly explains how the symbolic blending of two different coloured sands relates to the couple being married. Then while the couple pours their sands into a vessel they can either recite vows of have the celebrant read their vows. The image being witnessed is their personal symbol of union. To close the ceremony the celebrant would describe how the sand now symbolises their lives being entwined as one. The vessel now filled with the coloured sands becomes a precious keepsake of their special day.
